ROMAE CAPTIVATES at CHANEL COUTURE

ROMAE CAPTIVATES at CHANEL COUTURE
Paris, France - - Jamaican fashion icon Romae Gordon secured an
exclusive runway booking for the Chanel Couture Spring/ Summer
collection in Paris, marking a major milestone in her compelling
return to international fashion.  Gordon walked the Chanel Couture
runway on Tuesday in Paris.

After more than 30 years away from the world’s major runways, Gordon’s
comeback has had a striking momentum. Beginning in 2025 with Versace
at Milan Fashion Week, Gordon was selected by Chanel, arguably
France’s top design house.

Inside Paris’ famed Grand Palais, a veritable centre for arts and
culture, the Mathieu Blazy led fashion house staged a magical
couture showcase beneath its soaring glass dome. The venue was
transformed by a breathtaking art installation - oversized sculptural
fanciful red and pink mushrooms were centrepieces of creating an Alice
in Wonderland dreamlike landscape that felt both fantastical and
grounded in nature.

The front row was also stacked for stargazing featuring Nicole Kidman,
Tilda Swindon, Penolpe Cruz, Vanessa Paradis, Dua Lipa, A$AP Rocky and
the French First Lady - Brigitte Macron.

Early international reviews described the show as a confident
revitalisation of the house, praising its blend of ethereal lightness,
fairytale whimsy and modern sophistication. Central to the collection
was a sense of movement - the quiet power of fabrics floating through
the air, appearing easy and effortless despite the immense labour
behind them. In couture, this is known as flou: the art of creating
movement through exquisite construction, a quality critics noted as
reinforcing Blazy’s ability to bring a woman’s dream to life through
spectacle.

Gordon appeared in Look 31, a classic Chanel black jacket over a
perfectly fitted dress with appliqued pleated silk details at the end
of the dress mimicking feathers. The look was classic chic,
reflecting accents that were central to the collection’s inspiration
of nature and birds. The Chanel hallmark of exquisite craftsmanship
screams elegance with authority.

Speaking with the Gleaner from Paris, Gordon said her appearance on
the show was both by design and serendipity. “Last summer I was
deeply inspired by Leena Nair’s journey from her 30 years leading
Unilever to Chanel without any background in fashion. It represented a
seismic shift in the fashion house’s approach to leadership. I read
everything I could about Chanel and her story, never imagining that I
would soon be invited to be part of the brand’s first Couture
collection from Creative Director Mathieu Blazy.”

Chanel,  Paris, Milan and Versace have long existed within Gordon’s
professional orbit. For years, she scouted and developed some of
Jamaica’s most recognisable talent at Pulse into international runway
stars. She has shaped regional fashion behind the camera from
directing Caribbean Fashionweek, producing and leading fashion shows
across the Caribbean, North America and Europe to writing, producing
and directing fashion and modeling television programmes but now the
focus has shifted onto Gordon.

Her appearance comes during a pivotal couture season for Chanel, led
by newly appointed Creative Director Matthieu Blazy, whose first
couture outing has generated intense anticipation across the industry.
Blazy took risks, there were no sketches, no reference images, the
clothes were made on the body of each model for this first couture
outing. “Haute Couture is the very soul of Chanel - it is the
foundation and the full expression of the House. These are clothes
that are as much about the wearer as the designer. It’s the clothes
worn that give them a true story; their own story and an emotional
resonance.”  Matthieu Blazy on his couture collection for Chanel

Renowned casting director Anita Bitton’s instinctive unmatched regard
for making perfect pairings with designers and top modeling talent
proved spot on for Blazy’s couture début. Gordon is represented by
Select Model Paris, where agents Federica Mennea and Matteo Puglisi,
collaborated with Lulu Management, championed her placement.
“Romae’s story is fascinating - she is far more than a model and her spirit is
real and natural,” said Mennea. “We felt she was the right fit for
Select, and for major houses like Chanel.”

For Gordon, the moment is both grounding and surreal.  “Despite a
brutally difficult year and half of life changing loss and grief for
me - I’m pinching myself and in awe of the requests from these
important fashion labels. I feel fortunate to be considered, but I’m
also in great shape, able to fit the sample garments and walk the
runway with confidence.”

As global fashion continues to broaden its definition of beauty,
authority and relevance, Gordon’s appearance at the Chanel Couture
show signals a powerful expression of longevity and the woman who has
lived life. Jamaica’s presence on the world’s most prestigious runways
continues to deepen - and with Paris now firmly in the mix,
anticipation is high as she continues to break the mould.
